Why choose Excel Driving School?

Our graduates come from all over the island who have successfully reached their goal of getting their drivers license.  Our classroom provides the most current, up to date and informative information.  We understand that after school activities or work is important so we try our best to give the student the ability to easily schedule their driving lessons when it's most convenient for them.  Our program takes a minimum of 6 weeks, but we strive to finish within 3 months.  We want our students to drive!
Our vehicle comes equipped with a driver instructor brake pedal  on the passenger side.

How do I get my license in Hawaii if I am under the age of 18?

  1. You must first get your permit and be at least 15 1/2 years old.  Both parents or legal guardian must accompany the minor with all appropriate documents to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).  You will take an eye exam, so bring your glasses if need be. You will get your permit after successfully passing the multiple choice test.  To prepare for this test, you will need the most current Hawaii Driver's Manual.  It can be found in most grocery stores.  Smile for your permit picture!
  2. You must hold this permit for a minimum of 180 days (6 months) in order to qualify to take the driving test with the DMV.
  3. Take a driving program with Excel Driving School. =) We offer a package discount when you sign up for both classroom and behind the wheel lessons.  You will get 3 things from this driving program- Yellow Certificate, Blue Certificate, and 6 hours of Behind The Wheel instruction.
  4. The Yellow certificate will be given upon completion of the 30 hours of classroom.
  5. The Blue certificate will be issued after driving 6 hours of Behind The Wheel with our state certified driving instructor and completing a notarized driving log.
  6. The driving log is where you keep track of  your driving practice behind the wheel.  50 hours will need to be logged down, and 10 of those hours need to be at night.  This log will need to be notarized.  Your bank may do it for free or as low as $3.00.
  7. After waiting at least 180 days and having both certificates, you are now eligible to take your driving test.  Hopefully you booked your appointment in advance.  Walking in without an appointment in the early morning may be an option, but be aware that the DMV only takes in a minimum number of people.  Waiting for hours may or may not be worth it.
  8. Be prepared to take your test.  You should be comfortable driving.  Relax.  Let the tester guide you.  Follow the rules and you will do great.
